CrossTalk: Global Intervasions

In this edition of Peter Lavelle’s CrossTalk: Interventions followed by invasions don’t seem to go out of fashion. It is common practice that Western militaries get stuck in foreign lands and for an indefinite period of time. Yes, empires can bomb countries, but can they restore states after breaking them up? And will this intervention syndrome eventually turn into a political cancer? Guests: John Rees, Khariri Abaza and Omar Turbi.

Omar Turbi: When I was in Benghazi I talked to the people down there, I found out for myself that they talked to some of the soldiers that belonged to Ghadafi, are loyalists, and they had been given a mandate to come to town, level the town of 900,000 people literally level the town, rape the women and kill every man from 18 to 40…

Peter Lavelle: Well Omar,… we just hear this from people like you… There is no evidence of this except people like you who come on programs like mine… it’s never corroborated outside of that…

It’s about time everyone started asking for undeniable proof before consenting to military intervention in another countries affairs.
